Posted by: prosurferusa.com | Date: 2008-05-01 11:46:17 | Extremely Rare Fatal "Shark Attack" in San DiegoThis is the first death in San Diego Since the last fatal shark attack in 2004 a man diving off the coast of mendocino & in 2003 in san luis obispo a women swimming at Avilo BeachSince 1926 there only has been 96 shark attacks Out of those only 7 have been fatal Although Great Whites normally stay in colder water they do come down to the warmer waters to give birth & it's that time!! This shark is said to be as long as 17 to 20 feet long It attacks in the usual seal attack manner It comes from beneath and shoots out of the water It has a very powerful bite over 2 feet, knee to ankel It leaves you to bleed then comes back Please keep aware at this point the beaches are technically closed for about 8 to 16 or so miles from solana beach both ways "Advise"Head out in pairs at this point if you have no fear Please keep in mind that they are activly hunting for this shark/ great white They are chumming close to shore as well in attempts to catch this killer, so please be very aware esp; for the next 72 hours Dave Martin was training only 150 feet from shore in the Fletcher Cove Area Our hearts go out the Dave Martin, a very dedicated Triathlete & his family "may you be with god always & cross the heavenly finish line" Godbless all our friends & surf / water family! Our Actionsports family Have a safe summer! Be safe always! Mahalos! Posted by: prosurferusa.com | Date: 2008-04-26 13:27:20 | CollapseLest we not forget, surfing, open water swimming, SUP etc are wilderness events when we venture into the ocean. We are the visitors, and it appears that there was nothing anyone could have done differently, Dave nor the people that provided aid. The absurdity that he was a retired veterinarian is not lost on me, and yet, do you think the shark deserves to die? Posted by: Suvacrew | Date: 2008-04-26 17:08:39 |
